Internal Fire Dampers
Fire dampers are lifesaving pieces of equipment and act as a vital component of a buildings fire safety strategy. They are designed to help contain a fire to one area of a building, allowing for occupants to escape safely and giving fire fighters the best chance to deal with it before it causes too much damage.
By being strategically placed within a buildings air ventilation ductwork system, where it passes through fire compartment walls and floors, the spread of fire can be restricted safely. These internal fire dampers will need to be tested regularly to ensure that:
- There is no damage or obstruction to them
- The dampers are operating and closing fully
- They have been fitted correctly
Fire dampers should be installed correctly within a building and tested at least once a year to make sure they are functioning effectively and are able to help keep the occupants of a building safe when a fire breaks out. This responsibility falls upon the person in charge of the fire safety within your building.
It can feel overwhelming and may require the assistance of a professional passive fire protection company. Here at Surefire Passive our engineers will carry out an annual maintenance check of your internal fire dampers in accordance with BS 9999: 2017.
Each damper will be fully tested and our team will be able to answer any questions you might have about fire dampers. To find out more about the service that we offer, please contact us now.
